Aluminum Roof

roof1

Metal roofs are often referred to as "roof Cadillac." In fact, metal roofs do not describe a specific product, but rather describe the entire product line. The term itself does not even explain that you are talking about steel, aluminum, zinc or copper roofing.

Aluminum metal roofs are generally recommended for use in coastal climates. This is mainly due to the salt corrosion resistance of aluminum compared to other types of metal roofs. Although the general view of aluminum is that it is not affected by corrosion, the fact is that it is a highly reactive metal that reacts almost immediately to atmospheric conditions. This rapid response is actually the protection of it. The outer layer of aluminum reacts with the oxygen in the environment to form an aluminum oxide layer that effectively seals the inner metal layer and prevents any future corrosion. This process is similar to the A606 weathering steel process, but with faster speeds and longer protection times. Aluminum is often used with paint because its natural rust is not considered aesthetically attractive over time.

Aluminum roofing is the best choice for metal roofing materials, just like its more expensive cousins, copper and zinc. This is partly because it provides excellent corrosion resistance for ordinary black (steel) roofs. This feature makes it a popular choice for coastal applications.

Some things about aluminum:

1. As a bare natural metal, aluminum is not very beautiful with age, so when it is painted with a painted surface, it is most commonly used as a metal.

2. The usual aluminum alloys used in roofing applications are often very easy to mold and easy to work on site, making it an extremely easy material for most installers to use on the roof.

Aluminum is also usually the lightest metal for roofing. Its strength-to-weight ratio is the highest of the "normal" metals (which is why most passenger aircraft in the sky use aluminum as the air frame), so thinner aluminum sheets can usually be made thicker with other metals. This lightness and thinness also means that the aluminum roof stores the least amount of heat (think of the aluminum foil used for baking), so it quickly cools down when it stops direct sunlight.
